Austin police say reports of an alleged assault Thursday near Hormel Foods Corp.’s south corporate office were false, and that the incident was a medical issue.
Rumors spread around town after the incident, but Austin Police Captain Dave McKichan said it was untrue.
“Any reports of an alleged assault are unfounded, and there is no public alarm or concern for the public in this case,” he said.
Police were called to the scene on an assault call, but determined the case was likely a medical issue.
“There was no assault, there was no suspect,” McKichan said Friday morning. “The public is not in danger nor was in any danger.”
Officers did arrest someone during their investigation, but McKichan said the arrest wasn’t tied to the incident — police found a man who was wanted on an active warrant.
Though law enforcement are treating the incident as a medical call, McKichan said the case will be forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
Because of the nature of the case, police were not able to divulge any further information.
