April was a big month at United Way of Mower County — it marks the start of a new fiscal year for our organization. It also serves as a natural place for reflection. A snapshot of the organization now as compared to a year ago stand in stark contrast to one another. Over the past 12 months, new staff members have taken the reigns.
Diane Baker was appointed executive director in April of 2014 and it’s her work that has laid the foundation for the recently announced success of our 2014 Campaign. I came on board as project coordinator in January of this year.
We both bring unique skill sets and experiences to the table but share a common passion for bettering our community. The past 12 months have brought new faces and new successes, a perfect prelude to usher in a new era at United Way of Mower County.
It is our desire to create awareness around the meaningful work that we are doing to advance the common good in Mower County, specifically in the areas of education, income, health, and basic needs. expect to see United Way of Mower County attached to community partnerships and projects more frequently — not because we haven’t been doing these things previously (we have) but because we’re going to be more vocal about it. We are seizing opportunities like having a monthly column in the newspaper so you — the donor, the volunteer, the service-seeker, the community member — can connect and engage with us like never before.
Right now the United Way is looking to recruit new board members and investment volunteers. For more information about these opportunities, the application process, or for more information about United Way of Mower County, please visit our website, www.uwmower.org. The only prerequisite being you are a United Way of Mower County donor.
