Riverland Community College is celebrating its 75th anniversary this weekend and inviting everyone to celebrate with them.
Riverland will celebrate its anniversary with many events, including an Athletic Hall of Fame Induction celebration, the Jubilee Jam and two golf tournaments.
For the first time, the college will induct eight teams into the Riverland Community College Athletic Hall of Fame during a dinner and ceremony to be held at Albert Lea’s Wedgewood Cove at 6 p.m. Friday. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. In the past, only individual players have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The teams to be inducted include the 1947-1948 football team, the 1951-1952 men’s basketball team, the 1965-1966 men’s golf team, the 1971-1972 men’s baseball team, the 1976-1977 women’s basketball team, the 1979-1980 women’s softball team, the 1986-1987 women’s tennis team and the 1990-1991 men’s tennis team.
A weekend of activities is planned including a Breakfast of Champions celebration at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium at the Austin campus on Saturday.
This includes photographs and tours for alumni athletes. At 12:30 p.m. Saturday, there will be an 18-hole Golf Fundraiser at Wedgewood Cove in Albert Lea.
Participants can also participate in the 75th Anniversary Jubilee Jam, a free community event scheduled for 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Austin Campus’ ball diamond complex. The event will feature Six Mile Grove from 6 to 8 p.m. and three other bands on the Austin Showmobile stage. Other acts include The D’Sievers at 4:30 p.m., Josh and Kären Larson at 3:15 p.m. and Whalen and the Willows at 2 p.m. — all acts have an alumni connections to Riverland.
There will be food and beverages from three different food trucks, a beer garden, a bouncy house and games for children.
On Monday, Riverland Athletics will host its 28th annual Golf Fundraiser at Austin Country Club starting at 12:30 p.m. The cost to play in the tournament is $125. The event includes an 18-hole tournament in a four-person scramble format, dinner with a program and a silent auction. There is a special price of $175 for participants who want to play in both Riverland tournaments at Wedgewood and Austin Country Club.
