ROSE CREEK —The Southland softball team showed some fight, but it lost 14-6 to Wabasha-Kellogg (10-5 overall) in Rose Creek Friday.

The Rebels (2-11 overall) were able to extend the game to the full seven innings, despite trailing 11-0 after going into the bottom of the fifth inning and 13-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Southland had just two hits in the first four innings and it had eight hits in the last four frames. Sam Emanuel had a two-run double and Laura Kiefer singled in two runs.

“They came back very well. They started to hit the ball hard,” Southland head coach Greg Schulte said of his team. “They finally got back to the speed of their pitcher and we adjusted to her. We played a lot better game in the last couple of innings.”

The Rebels are just over a week away from the playoffs, but they still have a lot of work to do before they can focus completely on the postseason.

“When the tournament comes around that’s what you play all season for,” Schulte said. “We have seven games in five days next week and it’s going to be a long week.”
