Vlasta Johnson, 87 formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Albert Lea.
Vlasta Hrabak was born Aug. 7, 1927, in London Township of Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Josef and Wilhelmina (Kopp) Hrabak. She graduated from Austin High School. Vlasta worked as a secretary for the Charles Fox Candy Company in Austin. Vlasta married Dale Alden Johnson on June 22, 1947 at London, Minnesota.
Vlasta was a long time member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. After starting her family, she was a stay-at-home wife and mother. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and playing cards with the neighbors. Vlasta loved spending time with the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, enjoying their many sleepovers at “Grandma V’s.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; sister MaryAnn Rezac; and brother Joseph Hrabak.
Vlasta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Darlane and Robert Muilenburg, Hollandale, Minnesota, Diane and Michael Runtsch, Forest Lake, Minnesota, and Deloris and Steven Ashton, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; nine grandsons and wives: Chad and Allison Muilenburg, Mark and Holly Muilenburg, Adam Muilenburg, Kyle and Cathy Runtsch, Brendt Runtsch, Nathan Runtsch, Ryan and Jordan Ashton, Derek Ashton and Tyler and Danica Ashton; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Emily DeVriendt, Austin, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM officiating. Interment will be at OakwoodCemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Friday for one hour before the service.
