Two crashes with injuries were reported over the weekend in the northwest side of Austin.

At 11:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to an accident on the 1700 block of Fourth Street Northwest, where a 37-year-old Albert Lea woman driving a red Pontiac G6 rear-ended a 47-year-old Austin woman driving a Ford Fusion, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. The 47-year-old driver and a passenger were taken by Gold Cross to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin. The driver complained of neck pain and the passenger was placed in a neck collar.

Both vehicles were going Northbound on Fourth Street. No citations were issued at the time of the accident.

A second accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Sunday, where officers responded to the corner of Seventh Street and Ninth Avenue Northwest.

A witness told officers she was in her backyard and heard a collision at the corner of the street and a second collision in front of her house.

According to the report, a 54-year-old Austin man was driving a tan Ford Fusion northbound on Seventh Street Northwest when he reportedly saw an Oldsmobile Aurora going Westbound on Ninth Avenue toward him.

Both drivers swerved trying to avoid a collision, but they collided, and the Aurora ended up striking a tree and a legally parked white Monte Carlo on 1000 block of Seventh Street Northwest.

The witness said she saw the driver of the Oldsmobile, a 27-year-old Austin woman, get out of her vehicle and lay down in the boulevard next to her car, so she phoned police.

The 27-year-old driver told officers she tried to brake after hitting the other vehicle, but the brakes did not work, and she hit a tree and then the parked vehicle. The woman, who was initially going Westbound on Ninth Avenue saw the Ford at the uncontrolled intersection, swerved to avoid collision but hit the Ford, turning her Northbound on Seventh Ave. before the final collisions with the tree and parked vehicle.

Gold Cross took the female driver to Mayo Clinic Health Systems to check for injuries.

No citations were issued at the time of the accident.
