Austin is about to become a bicycling destination this weekend.
The city is part of a series of stops on the annual Tour of Minnesota bike ride set to start on this Friday. More than 120 bicyclists will arrive in Austin on Sunday, camp out at Todd Park and leave on Monday.
“It is amazing,” Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau Nancy Schnable said. “We have so many incredible things that are happening in Austin, to bring awareness to our city is great.”
The bicyclists will arrive in town Sunday afternoon and have a planned dinner and breakfast at the Izaac Walton League cabin.
Schnable said the group will also likely visit some of Austin’s landmarks, including the Rydjor Bike Shop museum and other downtown attractions.
The Tour of Minnesota will come through several southern Minnesota towns during its weeklong journey.
The event begins in Chaska on Friday, where riders will go to Faribault, Austin, Albert Lea and Owatonna before coming back to Chaska on June 19.
The trip is about 330 miles total.
