After 15 years of hard work, Scott Baudler is ready to pass his manager position to a new face at The Bridge in Austin.

Baudler officially retired Thursday after being one of the original founders of the organization in 2001.

“We wanted a place where people with and recovering from mental illnesses wouldn’t feel a stigma when they got together,” Baudler said.

At the Bridge, people with mental illnesses gather to hang out, play games and discuss each other’s lives, among other activities.

“It’s a social club,” Baudler said. “Anybody is welcome.”

Over the years, Baudler has seen progress in the organization. People are less cliquey than they were at the beginning, he says, and there are more participants, as well as a variety in the people that come.

“Now there’s all kinds of new faces all the time,” he said.

Baudler has had many fond memories of raising funds at benefits for Bridge activities.

“We’ve had some benefits over the years which have been really fun,” he said.

His career at the bridge has been smooth as well, with only small behavioral issues from a few patrons.

“Overall it’s been pretty easy,” Baudler said.

According to Baudler, he will miss the people the most.

“They’re just fun to be with,” he said.

However, Baudler decided that it’s time to move on from a leadership position and enjoy The Bridge as a patron.

“It felt like the time,” he said. “I just want to go there and enjoy myself.”

He plans to put his new free time to good use.
“Hopefully, I’ll keep up with more chores around the house, maybe go on more motorcycle trips and travel,” Baudler said.

Scott Delhany will take over Baudler’s position starting Friday and hopes to continue in the success Baudler has had.

“I want to keep the place running well with a fun atmosphere,” Delhany said.
