The Austin Blue Sox were able to recover from a slow start, but they were edged out in the 10th inning when they lost 8-6 to Burnsville in Marcusen Park Wednesday.

Burnsville took the lead for good in the top of the tenth inning when it put together three singles in four at bats. Austin (6-10 overall) had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second with one out, but it couldn’t come through.

Burnsville took 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Austin committed a couple of early errors and that start was tough for a Blue Sox team that has had some slow starts this year.

“It just gets frustrating when the first inning starts and someone makes an error and it spit balls,” Blue Sox first baseman Mark Harber said. “That’s been happening the last few games.”

Austin bounced back to take a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the first when Nestor Jimenez singled in two runs and Miguel Castro had an RBI single. Burnsville took a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth, but Austin tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth when Quinn Yocom delivered a two-out RBI double down the left field ine.

“It felt good to come back and it was good to have an answer,” Harber said. “Once everyone starts showing up, we’ll be OK. It’s a long process and it doesn’t matter where you start, it’s where you finish. Last year we were in last place [in the regular season] and we went to state.”
