Myra M. Peterson, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System – St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Myra Marcella Hanson was born June 8, 1940, at Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Myron and Belva (Kenyon) Hanson. She graduated from the Carpenter, Iowa, High School in 1958, Waldorf College and from the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Myra was married to Ray Arden Peterson on Dec. 8, 1962. The Petersons have lived in the Austin area and Myra was a surgical nurse for 42 years at St. Olaf Hospital, Austin Medical Center, Mayo Health Systems Austin, until the time of her retirement.
Myra was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and had been acting in a bowling league, the saddle club and she sang with the Sweet Adelines. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing. Myra liked to garden and can and was known for her bread-making which she enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends at the holidays,
Myra was preceded in death by her parents Belva and Myron Hanson; her in-laws, Edith and Melvin Peterson.
She is survived by her husband, Ray A. Peterson, Austin, Minnesota; daughters: Lynne LeMense (Robert), Browndeer, Wisconsin, Barbara Peterson-Solberg (Eric) Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandsons: Samuel LeMense, Andrew LeMense, Robert LeMense, Thor Solberg and Victor Solberg; sister, Evelyn Cross (Michael), Hampton, Iowa; brothers: Lyle Hanson, Tacoma, Washington, Lowell Hanson, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Interment will be at Deer Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery in Carpenter, Iowa. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service.
