ST. JAMES— A weak tornado has damaged an agricultural construction company building site and flattened some farm fields in southern Minnesota.
The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office got a report around 6:30 p.m. Friday of a tornado touching down about 6.5 miles south of St. James.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the touchdown and says a building site owned by Civil Ag Group sustained extensive damage. Several corn and soybean fields in the area also were damaged.
No other homes or building sites were damaged. No injuries are reported.
National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Franks says it was a “landspout tornado,” a weak tornado similar to a waterspout that forms over water.
