Music is on the sound waves for young orchestra players this week.

The Seven Springs String camp’s sixth year began on Monday at the home of Susan Radloff for 31 students ages 10-15.

“It’s exciting every year for me,” Radloff said.

As a retired Austin Public Schools teacher, the camp is a way for Radloff to get back into teaching.

“For me there’s just a special excitement to get right back into the activity, the full blown experience of teaching,” she said. “To see the new faces and see the experience of the new music.”

She hopes the students come out with a love for music and the enjoyment of playing their instruments.

This year’s theme is music and dance, which will both be on display at a concert at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans’ Pavilion. The concert will be followed by a potluck, and both are free and open to the public. It is suggested that those in attendance bring a lawn chair and either a two-liter bottle of soda or a bag of chips to share.

Featured dancers are Peter Jacobs, Ann Hokanson and the Jane Taylor Dancers.
