Area Karen are inviting the community to celebrate the 65th Memorial Karen National Martyr’s Day this Saturday.
The event, which includes a wrist tying ceremony, will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Todd Park. A light lunch will be served between noon and 1 p.m. as well.
Karen Martyr Day is held to honor those who gave their lives for the Karen under Burmese military regimes.
The wrist tying ceremony is a sacred tradition open to all people that symbolically ties a person’s spirit to their body, keeping them happy and contributing to their well-being.
In addition, a Karen soccer tournament will be held on Sunday.
