A longtime Austin business is closing its doors this week.

Bustad’s Excavating Service and subsequent businesses owned by Wallace Bustad are shutting down. The company held an auction Wednesday morning to sell off its sizable heavy equipment inventory, among other things.

“We just decided it’s time to sell out,” Marlys Bustad, Wallace’s wife, said.

The Bustads felt they were getting too old to continue the business, according to Marlys, and decided to close the excavation and demolition company.

Bustad’s, as it’s known around town, has been involved in many demolition projects around town over the years. Bustad demolished the previous Hormel Foods Corp. Austin plant in the early ‘80s, among other projects.
