The Austin City Council voted 7-0 Monday night to replace 50 to 60 street lights a year with LED lights within the Austin Utilities current maintenance agreement.
Last month, the council discussed changing lights around Mill Pond to improve safety along the pond’s walking trail at night. Though the council approved clearing out more trees and adding a few more lights, council members and city staff later discussed switching to LED lights, following other cities and municipalities.
There are about 250 street lights throughout the community, including decorative lights, cobra head and wood pole mount lights.
