Gladys Mae Hackensmith, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.

Gladys was born in Austin on April 6, 1922, to Irvin and Pauline (Thompson) Wolfe. She attended school at Lincoln Elementary and Austin High School. After her schooling, she worked at a café in Spring Valley and also at Comforcare in Austin. On March 20, 1965, Gladys married Earl C. Hackensmith at the chapel of the Methodist Church in Austin. They loved to travel, fish, and camp together at Lake Milack and danced to polka music in Bixby for years. Gladys was a homemaker who was a great cook and loved to work with her hands — especially when it came to knitting. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. Earl died on May 4, 2008.

Gladys is survived by her daughters: Nancy (Gregory) Caulfield of Bloomington, and Lucinda (Phil) Buck of Austin; grandchildren: Kristine, Jackie, Kelly, Karena and Kylene; great-grandchildren: Alex, Danielle, Madison, Ethan, Gabby, Alexander, Colton and Jaylen.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service only. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Online Condolences-www.mayerfh.com.
