Hounds drop game one to Burnsville

The Austin Greyhounds now have their backs to the wall after they lost to Burnsville 7-3 in game one of a three game series in their section tournament opener in Marcusen Park Tuesday.
The Hounds will play game two in Burnsville 7:30 p.m. Thursday and if they win that game, they’ll play again in Marcusen Park 7:30 p.m. Friday.
On Tuesday the Hounds didn’t plate a run until the bottom of the ninth, when Gabe Kasak singled in a run and Jordan Hart drove in two runs with a two out single.
Burnsville pitcher Shawn Held allowed just seven hits as he struck out eight.
“He’s a good pitcher. He changes speeds pretty good and he moves the ball around,” Hounds manager Matt Cano said. “He kind of had all of us off balanced. We really need to get better at bats and have better approaches at the plate.”
Nels Nelson allowed 12 hits in seven innings for Austin, but a lot of Burnsville’s hits were bloop singles and the Bobcats had just one extra base hit.
“Nels pitched really well,” Cano said. “I think they had one hard hit. Other than that, they found a lot of holes right between first and second.”
Cano said Joe Huffman will be on the mound for the Hounds Thursday.
