The Austin Greyhounds had their season come to an end when they lost 6-4 to the Burnsville Bobcats in game of a Section 2B series in Burnsville Thursday.
The Hounds scored a pair of runs to get within 6-4 in the top of the eighth, but they went down in order in the ninth.
The Bobcats did most of their damage when they plated five runs off of six hits in the bottom of the first inning. From that point, Austin pitcher Joe Huffman allowed just one run over the last eight innings.
“Huffman pitched a complete game and really grinded it out and threw well enough to get the win,” Hounds manager John Frein said. “Offensively we fell a bit short. Burnsville is a good team and they flat out beat us. We give them a lot of credit and wish them well in the next rounds.”
Frein said the Hounds will look back on the season as a positive as they took second in the SpamTown Challenge and the team was able to bring up some younger players.
“Lots of young faces and some good exposure and experience for those guys. As a team we have nothing to hang our heads about,” Frein said. “Tyler [Leopold] battled through some tough times this past year and we were able to spread awareness of a challenging situation they endured with Elliana.”
