Joan A. Schonsby, 97, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at the Trails of Orono Assisted Living Facility in Wayzata, Minnesota.

Joan Augusta Milbrath was born on Aug. 17, 1917, in Bloomfield Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, to John and Laura (Kumm) Milbrath. She attended school in Chester, Iowa. On June 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Lester Schonsby in Lime Springs, Iowa. The couple raised two children. Lester passed away in 1983. Joan was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She worked for Austin Public Schools as a cook, retiring 30 years ago. She loved gardening and all things flowers, traveling across the U.S. and Canada on her many scenic bus tours with her many senior citizen friends. She will be missed by her immediate family and her many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her son Dennis (Karen) Schonsby of Plymouth, Minnesota; grandchildren: Greg (Jenni), Jennifer, Alicia, and Roxanne; great-grandchildren: Taylor H., Taylor T., Jordan, Anna, and Malcom; son-in-law Terrance Hughson of Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Lester; her daughter Diane; six sisters: Lorna, Laura, Verona, Millie, Marty, and Valetta; and her brother Raymond.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family prefers that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or recipient of donors’ choice. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
