Get to know: Southland volleyball player Olivia Gray

Olivia Gray is a senior hitter on the Southland volleyball team. The Rebels are off to a 3-9 overall start this season.
Age: 17
Q: How did you originally get into your sport?
A: I was around the age of eight when I got into the sport of volleyball. I watched my older sister, Kelly play, and it looked like a lot of fun so I wanted to start playing. Every day during that summer and the summers that followed, my sister and dad would teach me new skills, and the entire family would play a couple of games together.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: A couple of years ago, I served an entire game in JO Volleyball. The best part was my entire team worked so well together to keep the streak going.
Q: What have you learned from playing sports?
A: I have learned that putting in extra work is rewarding and that giving up is never an option.
Q: What is the hardest part about your sport?
A: It is difficult to go up against taller middle hitters, but I enjoy a good challenge.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: Iowa State’s post, Jameel McKay, is my biggest sports role model. He fires up the entire team with his great play and upbeat attitude. He makes it fun for his team and for everyone else to watch.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: The Vampire Diaries.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: American History.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: FBI Agent.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Chicken Alfredo.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: I plan to attend a 4-year university and continue with professional school to be a physical therapist or small animal veterinarian.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?
A: I have been to 47 states in the U.S.
