Thrivent Financial is aiming for its second annual Oktoberfest Celebration to be even bigger this weekend
Thrivent will host a community Oktoberfest: Beer, Brats and Bazaar event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Veteran’s Pavilion in Bandshell Community Park with all proceeds going to Lyle Area Cancer.
“Last year was our first annual and we had a pretty good turnout,” event co-chair and LAC co-chair Cindy Ricke said.
The event raised $20,810, and Wichmann and Wichmann and other organizers moved the event to Bandshell Park to have more room for people to attend.
They’re hoping for a good turnout again this year.
“A lot of good food, a lot good beer, a lot of fun,” Cindy said.
The Jaycees will provided beer, and brats and other food will be available, along with a bake sale. A local artist will also be doing temporary henna tattoos. Honey donated from honey farm will be for sale, as will goat milk soap.
Festivities will include a hot dog-eating contest, a chili cookoff, entertainment from Big Ben and the Brians Concertina Band, and a dunk tank with local celebrities, including State Sen. Dan Sparks, KAAL-TV’s Chris Kubal and James Wilcox, LAC Co-Chair Larry Ricke, and Hy-Vee Manager Todd Hepler.
