Revealing the Gallipoli Campaign of WWI
Published 7:01 am Sunday, September 27, 2015
September’s topic from the Mower County Historical Society is the Gallipoli Campaign, one of the greatest military disasters of World War I.
The Gallipoli Campaign was mostly the idea of one man, Winston Churchill, who thought it would knock Turkey out of the war in a few short weeks. Months later, after tens of thousands of men were lost, the Allies abandoned the campaign having accomplished nothing. Gallipoli remains one of the most controversial battles of the war.
