The man accused of trying to choke a woman last year entered plea deal in Mower County District Court Monday.
Eric Thomas Turner, 35, took a deal and pleaded guilty to terroristic threats-reckless disregard, a felony, according to court documents.
Turner was arrested Oct. 11, 2014, after police responded to a domestic assault report. Police received a call around 9 p.m. that Friday from a woman who told officers she was “in total fear” of Turner after he knocked her down and started to choke her. The victim’s young child witnessed the assault.
The man fled in the victim’s vehicle after the assault, and officers received a tip as to his location on South Main Street, according to a police report.
Turner refused to cooperate, telling officers, “You’re going to have to shoot me. I have a weapon.” After officers asked him to put his hands in the air, he again told officers they’d have to shoot him.
Officers stunned Turner with a Taser at least twice and used a chemical irritant before getting Turner in handcuffs.
Thomas was charged with terroristic threats and domestic assault by strangulation, both felonies. He was also charged with obstructing the legal process by resisting arrest, a gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor domestic assault.
Turner is schedule to be sentenced Jan. 28, 2016.
