SUPERIOR, Wis. — A Douglas County judge went beyond recommendations in a plea agreement in sentencing a teen to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting a man during a robbery attempt.
Judge George Glonek also gave 18-year-old Chance Andrews 10 years of supervision during sentencing in a packed courtroom Thursday. Nearly 100 people crowded into the courtroom.
Andrews earlier pleaded guilty to felony murder in the death of 20-year-old Garth Velin last September at the victim’s Superior home. The prosecution and defense recommended 16½ years in prison as part of the plea agreement.
