The Arc brings autism series to Austin

The Arc Mower County along with the Mower County Collaborative and The Arc Freeborn County are bringing AuSM’s Life with Autism Series to Austin.
The series takes place 5 to 7 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5 and Monday, Oct. 19.
There is no cost to attend any workshop and all workshops will be held at The Arc Mower County, 401 2nd Ave NE, Austin

•Positive Beginnings, Newly Diagnosed — 7:30-9:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5
•Autism in Adolescence — 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19
•Autism in Adulthood — 7:30-9:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19.
AuSM’s Life with Autism Series (formerly the AuSM Discovery Series) offers parents, family members, relatives and caregivers of individuals with autism information and age-focused strategies through hope-filled, engaging classes led by autism experts and parent speakers. The Life with Autism Series also includes an Intro to Autism class for those who want to obtain a basic understanding of this neurological developmental disorder.
Life with Autism class participants comes away with practical strategies and suggestions to help guide their journey through the age-specific stages of life.
This four-part series will include workshops on Intro to Autism, newly diagnosed, (18 months to 10 years old), adolescence and transition (10 to 21 years old), adults (18 years old and older).

•Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast Fundraiser, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, at The Austin Eagles Club, 107 11th St NE, Austin, MN. Tickets are available at The Arc office or from any member of the Board of Directors. $8 for adults or $5 children (6-12)

•Halloween Dance and Costume Contest, 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17 from at the Mower County Senior Center. Get ready for the best party of the year, when we all get dressed up in wild costumes and dance the evening away to old favorites like “Monster Mash,” “Thriller,” and other spooky tunes. People of all ages and abilities are invited to this great Halloween dance featuring great music, costume contest, refreshments and prizes. Cost $4 per member, staff, parents and chaperones get in free.
