Westminster Presbyterian Church will rally to unveil its new-look education space this Sunday.
Westminster, 802 Fourth St. SW, is holding a Rally Day event from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate its remodeled Christian Education Wing or CE Wing, which is home to many of the church’s Sunday school and children’s ministry programs.
The church’s CE Wing hadn’t been updated since the 1960s or 1970s, so Rev. Mike Olmsted said it was time to match the space to modern learning.
“It’s all about a change in the dynamics of learning,” Rev. Mike Olmsted said. “We learn with all of our senses and we learn with kind of energy and excitement.”
Work included new drywall, repainted rooms, new ceilings, new furniture and more.
The church’s youth ministries aren’t just about classroom learning, as Olmsted noted how youth at the church rotate through a variety of rooms: a computer lab, a movie theater, a storytelling room, arts and music rooms, and more.
“It’s less about sitting in a classroom; it’s more about experiencing the wonderful stories of scripture,” Olmsted said.
Following Sunday’s morning service, there will be a ribbon cutting for the remodeled CE wing, a meal, games, inflatables, along with other activities.
The Rally Day event will tie in with the church’s kickoff to fall programming, and Wednesday night ministries are also starting soon at the church.
The public is invited to attend the event.
