EDINA — Two elementary schools in a Twin Cities suburb have joined a growing list of schools that employ recess consultants who promise to improve the playground experience for young children.
But not all parents and students are thrilled with adult-directed play time. The company Playworks promises that recess can be more inclusive and beneficial to children if it’s structured and coordinated. The Star Tribune says Concord and Normandale Elementary Schools in Edina have hired the recess consultants.
Games and activities are directed by adults and ensure that no children are left out. Playworks says participating schools have reported a decline in disciplinary incidents and a better focus in class.
