Drivers hospitalized in weekend crashes

Two Austin residents were hospitalized after separate rollovers on Sunday.

In the first incident, Katie A. Lowe, 34, of Austin was driving a Chevy GMT 400 truck eastbound on Interstate 90 around 4:38 a.m. when it ran off the road, hit a guardrail fence and rolled into the ditch in Freeborn County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Lowe was transported by Mayo 1 to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the Albert Lea Police Department and Hayward Fire assisted on the scene.

In the second incident, Chelsie B. Thorton, 24, of Austin, was driving a 2014 Chevy Spark southbound on Highway 218 when it crossed the northbound lane, drove into the ditch and rolled, according to a State Patrol report.

Thorton was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office and Austin Police Department assisted on the scene.
