Best Bets: A perfect autumn weekend to get out

Get ready to get refreshed with the Mower Refreshed Harvest 5K this weekend.
With a craft bazaar, fall festival and a couple of princesses and frogs, there is something for everyone of every age in the family this weekend.
1. Annual Holiday Food and Wine Event
5-9 p.m., Friday, Hormel Historic Home, 208 Fourth Ave. NW
Enjoy delicious displays of food and wine created by Hy-Vee’s staff. Tickets are $15, and the proceeds will help to support the annual Feed-A-Family program. For more information, call 507-433-4243.
2. Mower Refreshed Harvest 5K Walk/Run
7:30-11 a.m., Izaak Walton Cabin, Todd Park
This run will help harvest healthy food for the county’s food shelves. The entry fee is $20 plus a healthy food donation brought in advance, or $25 plus a healthy food donation on race day. Proceeds and food donations will benefit area food shelves. Registered participants will receive a long-sleeved t-shirt and water bottle. Register between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Saturday. 3. Craft Bazaar and Home Business Expo
9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Grace Lutheran Church, 2001 Sixth Ave. SE
This event features a large selection of crafts, jewelry, homemade greeting cards, 31, Tupperware, Watkins, Norwex, Daisy Blue, Tastefully Simple, soaps, Mary Kaye, Avon and more. There will also be a church women bake sale, a quilt sale, a raffle, prizes and refreshments.
4. Fall Festival
10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Grand Meadow Lutheran Church, 115 First St. NE
This event will feature homemade donuts along with a full menu including chili and cornbread. There will be a bake sale including lefse, muffins, dessert and beverages. There will also be raffle tickets for quilts. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, and preschool age and under are free.
5. ‘The Far Fetched Fable of the Frog Prince’
7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Historic Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave NE
This comedy by Jennifer Kirkeby helps the audience understand why the frog in the traditional “The Frog Prince” story, (who’s really a prince) got turned into a frog in the first place. At the same time, a school is preparing to do the play “The Frog Prince.” With a little magical mix-up between the old and the new brought on by a crafty witch, the two stories begin to overlap, intertwine and create complete zaniness. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth.
6. Hormel Institute Live Learning Center Open House
1-3 p.m., Saturday, The Hormel Institute, 801 16th Ave NE
This open house is free to the public. Join Goldy Gopher for a special announcement, refreshments, and a sneak peak of the Institute’s future Live Learning Center. For more information, call 507-437-9602.
