County bids farewell to social worker; Horn retires after 32 years

Several Mower County Health and Human Services workers helped the county board bid farewell to a longtime coworker on Tuesday.

More than 20 workers packed the Mower County board room Tuesday to recognize lead social worker Colleen Horn for her retirement after 32 years with the county.

Health and Human Services Director Lisa Kocer described Horn as a connector.

“She really believed in pulling people together,” Kocer said.

Horn’s direct supervisor, Emily Miller, thanked Horn for her mentorship when she first started with the county.

“She is a woman I admire, and she will be greatly missed,” Miller said.

County Coordinator Craig Oscarson described Horn as a caring and dedicated employee who never slowed down as she neared retirement; she kept working hard.

Colleen, whose last day was Monday, said she’s going to miss her colleagues and coworkers.
