Austin saw an unusually high number of car crashes Friday evening into Saturday morning after about three inches of snow fell over the Mower County area.
The city of Austin recorded about 13 crashes, and the Sheriff’s Department had about 10 crashes, with about three or four likely overlapping, according to Austin Police Lt. Dave McKichan.
McKichen said there were no injuries reported in the accidents, which happened between 3 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. He said the average number of such accidents is one or two per night during that time frame.
“Our first snowfall, it was putting a nice coating on the road,” McKichan said.
“It’s a reminder that winter weather is back and you’ve got to go slow,” he added.
