The Austin boys hockey team shared the wealth as it beat Bagley-Fosston (1-7 overall) 8-1 to pick up its first win of the season in Riverside Arena Saturday.
The Packers (1-6-1 overall) blasted off 70 shots in the win as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. Eight different players scored for the Packers.
“We played as a team and not as individuals and that’s what gave us points,” said Isaac Arnold, who had a goal and three assists. “Once you get one win, you hope the floodgates open and you can keep it going.”
The Packers moved junior Jace Greenman from defense to forward and it paid off. Greenman scored a goal in first period to make it 5-0.
“It’s more intense,” Greenman said of playing forward. “I was out of breath a little bit because I’m not used to skating that much. It was nice to be up front and being more involved.”
The Packers were held to two goals or less in five of their first seven contests this season. Austin head coach Erik LaRock is hoping the team can keep the momentum going.
“It was nice to see eight different guys score. It shows that we have three good lines. We still have a lot to work on, but we needed this,” LaRock said.
