BUFFALO — A body found Sunday afternoon near Monticello has been identified as Tyler Berg, a 24-year-old St. Cloud man who was missing since Nov. 22.
Searchers found Berg’s body in a marsh south of Interstate Highway 94 near Dalton Avenue, according to Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty. His body was found by volunteers from United Legacy Search, Rescue & Recovery, who had been searching the area for Berg.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the body and identified it Tuesday as Berg.
“The circumstances surrounding the death of Tyler Berg is under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office did not release a preliminary cause of death.
Berg was last seen in St. Cloud on Nov. 22. His black Mercury Cougar was found the next day near Otter Creek Park in Monticello. Articles of clothing believed to be his were found there and at the Monticello Country Club golf course.
On Sunday, volunteers combed woods and fields in search of Berg. Originally from Austin, Berg had lived in St. Cloud for about three months and was planning to attend St. Cloud Technical & Community College next semester for computer science, according to those who knew him.
They described Berg as an energetic and charismatic guy who loved golf, fishing and baseball. Family and friends were at a loss to explain why and how he went missing.
A Go Fund Me page has been established to help defray the costs for his family.
