Packer girls hockey team scores big win over Albert Lea

Chloe Summerfield, Myia Hoium and Madison Overby all had three goals as the Packers topped Albert Lea (3-10-1 overall, 1-9-1 Big Nine) 12-1.
Austin went on a scoring frenzy in the second and third periods as it had five goals in the second and four goals in the third. The Packers have now beaten the Tigers twice as they won 5-0 at AL Nov. 12.
“When you’ve already beat a team once, you can take them lightly. We came out in the second half of the first period and we started skating well. In every phase of the game we played well,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said. “We’re trying to work on not having just one or two girls score and we’re getting better at it.”
The veterans carried Austin’s offense for the first two periods and freshmen Lily Holtz and Erin Bickler each scored a third period goal.
The 11-goal differential was Austin’s most lop-sided win since Nov. 23 of 2012.
“We haven’t had a win like this in a long time. It was good to get some shots and get the younger girls some experience,” Summerfield said.
