Paramount set for big start to 2016

With the last of our fall season in the books, the AACA is looking forward to a new year and a full spring calendar of events at the Historic Paramount Theatre. And we’ve got something for everyone.
We kick things off on Jan. 18 with a screening of the award-winning “Selma,” presented by the Austin Human Rights Commission, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Miss the music you used to jam to back in the day? Mark your calendar for March 19, when Chicago tribute band Transit Authority takes the stage. And on April 30, Richie Lee & the Fabulous 50s take their turn.
Instrumental music more your thing? Paramount Jazz returns to the theatre on Valentine’s day this year with two shows, one matinee and one evening performance. Sounds like a date to me. And on April 17, Austin Symphony Orchestra will present “Opera Festiva!” with tenor Rick Penning and soprano Elizabeth Hunter Ashley.
Theirs won’t be the only voices making good use of the Paramount; the Northwestern Singers are back— “Back to the Future,” that is. (Sorry, puns are kinda my thing.) And on April 24 Austin’s favorite barbershop group, the Forte Milers, also return.
And finally, in the theatre and dance corner, we’re pleased to present Zenon Dance Company — a fantastic group from the Twin Cities — on March 11. Matchbox Children’s Theatre also returns with “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” on Feb. 5, 6 and 7 and “Story Stew: A Fairy Tale Revue” on April 8, 9, and 10. We close our spring season with Comedy Night on May 6.
Tickets, as always, will be available on our website at austinareaarts.org and at the ArtWorks Center (507-434-0934). We’re looking forward to seeing you in 2016.
