Thieves steal six road signs

Six signs are missing on a county road after they were recently replaced with high reflectors.

Six chevron signs — signs that indicate a large curve in the road — and one sign post are missing along a curve from where County Road 29 transitions into County Road 4, south of Austin, on 540th Ave, according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi. The signs were replaced about three weeks ago with high reflectors to meet standards, and they were taken within the last three weeks. Amazi said the concern isn’t as much about the cost of the signs as the danger to drivers. Drivers should be careful when coming to the curve, but the county is working to replace the signs quickly. Amazi hoped the sign stealing was not a trend, as it could be dangerous to drivers and the public. There are no suspects at this time.
