Woman with Alzheimer’s dies after wandering away from home

TWIN LAKES – An elderly Twin Lakes woman with Alzheimer’s was found dead Saturday morning after she reportedly went missing from her home a few hours earlier.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at about 7 a.m.to the area of 805 S. U.S. Highway 69 in Twin Lakes on a report of an 85-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s who had reportedly walked away from her residence at about 4 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Twin Lakes, Emmons, Albert Lea and Albert Lea Township fire departments conducted an extensive search in the area.
The woman, whose name had not been released, was found a short time later near an old railroad bed about 200 meters from the house.
A news release stated lifesaving efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
No foul play is suspected.
Authorities plan to release the name of the woman early this week.
