The Bruins will be holding another session of Learn to Play Hockey for those participants age 3 to 8. The next session will be from 6:15 to 7:07 p.m. beginning Jan. 6 and runs through Feb. 10 at Riverside Arena.

The cost is $35; please register at the Park and Recreation office by Jan. 5. Participants must have full gear which can be obtained through our partnership with Austin Youth Hockey. Curling

It is not too late to join the curling league which starts Monday and goes through Feb. 22 at Packer Arena with a 6 p.m. start.

Sign up as a team with a minimum of four players and individuals may also register. We will place you on a team. Cost per player is $80. Register at the Park and Recreation office.

Riverside and Packer Arena

Adult Open Hockey is at Packer Arena from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. this Wednesday. The cost is $6 per person, you must be at least in high school, no checking, no alcohol and a helmet is required. Goalies are free and must have full gear. Watch for dates and times starting in January.

Youth soccer

Austin Youth Soccer Association has changed the start date and time that they will be offering Dome Skill Camps for students.

•U6/U9: 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays on Jan. 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, Feb. 1 and 4. Cost is $30.

•U10/U11: 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and 6 to 7 p.m. Thurdays on Jan 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, Feb. 1 and 4. Cost is $75.

•U12/U13,U14/U15and U16/U17: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays Jan. 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31, and Feb. 4. Cost is $95

•Saturday mornings team league play is from 8 a.m. to noon.

There are scholarships available to students for activities offered by us or the youth associations that will be held in the dome if you qualify for free and reduced lunch. You must apply for those through the APS Athletic office located in Austin High.

Jay C. Hormel Nature Center

With the recent snow events you should watch for information on the Dammen Nordic Cross Country Ski race that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Jan. 16, weather permitting. The possibilities include an 8K Classical, 13K Freestyle and a one-mile beginners/kids race. Registration is available online at www.hormelnaturecenter.org/ski-race or contract the Nature Center at 507-437-7519.

When the trails are ready adults may rent cross country skis for $6 and snowshoes for $5. Children 18 and under may rent either for $1 which is made possible by Belita Schindler in memory of Dr. Richard Schindler. The fees are daily fees per person for three hours.
