Shirleen J. Tipton, 73, of Adams, Minnesota, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Wildwood Grove in LeRoy, Minnesota.
Shirleen Jane Tipton was born Aug. 30, 1942, at Hosmer, South Dakota, the daughter of Reinhold and Magdalena (Weisz) Pietz. She graduated from Roscoe High School in 1960 and from Stewarts School of Cosmetology in 1962. Shirleen worked as a hairstylist in South Dakota and was married to Dean Tipton on Dec. 13, 1964, at Aberdeen, South Dakota.
In 1969, the Tipton’s moved to Adams, Minnesota. Shirleen’s great love for children led her to opening her day care center in Adams, which she operated for a number of years. Later, she worked in the housekeeping department at the Adams Health Care Center. She has been an active member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church. Shirleen enjoyed dancing and loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Viola Scheid; and brothers: Mervin, Milbert, Morries and Gale.
Shirleen is survived by her husband Dean of Adams, Minnesota; daughter, Tricia and her husband Mike Schindler, Stewartville, Minnesota; sons: Todd Tipton and his friend Melinda, Elkton, Minnesota, Terry Tipton and his wife Mary Duvall, Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren: Lindsey Morgan, Jordan and Mason Schindler, Jocelyn and Cyrus Tipton; brother, Leroy Pietz, St. Louis Park, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams with the Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church for one hour before the service on Friday.
