Austin senior Kelsey Sederquest may have been a three sport athlete throughout high school with the Packers, but she’s always favored volleyball. Now Sederquest, who also plays basketball and softball, has secured her future in college volleyball.
Sederquest recently made her verbal commitment to play NAIA volleyball at Waldorf College, where she will receive a partial athletic scholarship.
Sederquest is coming off a stellar season for the Packer volleyball team, where she became the school’s all-time digs leader with 1,150 career digs. Sederquest had 478 digs this past season.
“Volleyball has always been my favorite sport,” she said. “It’s taken up a lot of my life and it’s really important for me to keep playing.”
Sederquest was looking at a couple other schools as well, but she said Waldorf’s offer stood out and she likes the atmosphere at the school, which is located in Forest City, Iowa.
Sederquest, who will play at the libero position in college just like she did for the Packers, is excited to take her game to the next level. She’s been preparing by playing winter volleyball with the Southern Slam in Austin.
“It’s always been kind of a goal and dream of mine to play college volleyball. I’m really excited to play with a bunch of new girls and play at a higher level,” Sederquest said. “I want to develop into a better player.”
There have been a lot of Austin volleyball players to move on to play in the college ranks, including 2015 Austin grad Alex Hansen, who recently finished a strong season at Bethany Lutheran.
Waldorf finished 9-29 overall last season.
