ST. PAUL — Former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords is bringing her efforts to boost gun control to Minnesota.
Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, have focused on reducing gun violence since Giffords was gravely injured by a gunman at a public event in 2011. Six people died and 12 others were injured in the attack.
The pair was scheduled to make several visits in Minnesota Thursday as they launch a state-focused effort dubbed “Minnesota Coalition for Common Sense.” Spokesman Mark Prentice said Wednesday they’ll focus on expanding background checks and bolstering the state’s reporting to the federal government.
The group previewed its plans to The Associated Press Wednesday.
Giffords’ group launched similar efforts earlier in New Hampshire and Oregon.
