The Hayfield girls basketball team opened Section 1AA tournament play in dominant fashion as they cruised past No. 14 seeded La Crescent (4-21 overall) 87-38 in Hayfield Thursday.

The No 3 seeded Vikings (19-7 overall) poured in 60 points and drilled eight three-pointers in the first half.

“We just jumped on them. We came to play and we played well,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said.

The Vikings will play No. 6 seeded Winona Cotter in the Section 1AA quarterfinals 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
