John Rex Grimley, 91

John Rex Grimley, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at Cedars of Austin.
Rex was born in Fountain, Minnesota, on June 11, 1924, to Edwin and Sarah (Connelly) Grimley. He was one of eight children in his family. They moved to Austin in 1932. Rex attended Columbus Grade School and St. Augustine High School. He worked for George A. Hormel Foods and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Rex served his country in World War II in the European Theater. He married Lucille Rose Daly on Oct. 30, 1946, at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. They moved back to Austin and raised their five children. Rex continued to work for Hormel Foods for 42 years and retired in 1983. Lucille died on Dec. 19, 2007.
Rex was a life-long member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Austin American Legion Post No. 91. He was a very patriotic man who supported the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Rex loved and cherished his wife and family.
He is survived by his children: Kathleen (John) Pumroy of Austin, Cindy (Bill) Gunther of New Hope, Minnesota, Debra (Mike) LaMothe of Crystal, Minnesota, Jon (Diane) Grimley of River Falls, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Jerry Grimley of Austin, and Joan (John) O’Rourke of Austin; along with many nieces and nephews.
Rex is preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille; son David Grimley; siblings: Bob Grimley, Max Grimley, Don Grimley, Duane Grimley and Beverly Dushek.
A funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Fr. Dale Tupper officiating. Visitation will start at 12 p.m. at the church until the funeral mass.
