The purpose of the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is to empower adults with lasting lifestyle changes that will improve their overall health and reduce their chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58 percent overall and by 71 percent in individuals over age 60. Get more information and find out if you qualify by attending “Can the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program help me or my loved one?” at the Mower County Senior Center at 2 p.m. on Friday, taught by Jill Wagner, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Coordinator, Austin. The next YMCA class begins March 7. To register for the informational class stop by the front desk or call the senior center at 507-433-2370.

We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having scalloped potatoes and ham for only $2. You are always welcome at the center
