Mae A. Schroeder, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.
Mae Anita Proeschel was born April 21, 1927, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar W. and Anna W. (Hanken) Proeschel. She attended Maple Leaf School District No. 106 before graduating from Austin High School. On Sept. 12, 1948, Mae was united in marriage to Robert Schroeder at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter Township. The couple raised three children. Mae worked at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin as a dietary aide from 1971-1992. She was a caregiver to many, including her husband of 35 years, Bob, her parents, Aunt Frieda, and several friends in need. She loved the outdoors, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and mowing her own lawn until the age of 80. Especially important to Mae was the love of her family and friends, and she treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dexter Township, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She was active in the Trinity Ladies Circle, the Altar Guild, and taught Sunday school. Her life has now come full circle as we say goodbye to her and the church she loved.
Mae is survived by her daughters: Marlene (Kenton) Lynne of Rochester, Minnesota, Donna (Gordon) Handeland of Austin, Minnesota, and Kathryn (Ted) Henricks of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; her grandchildren: David Handeland (Kelly McMahon), Kari (Adam) Lindberg, Timothy Henricks, Laura Henricks (Kaleb Hancock), Courtney Lynne (Dutch Hansen), Eric Lynne; great-grandchildren: Hans Lindberg and Britta Lindberg; brother, Victor (Saundra) Proeschel of Glencoe; sister-in-law, Eunice Hansen of Edina; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Anna Proeschel; her husband Robert Schroeder in 1983; her brother Marvin Proeschel; and sisters-in-law: Lorna Schnell, Lorraine Parsons, and Devera Proeschel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dexter Township, 22980 630th Ave, with the Rev. Dean Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin.
