The Mower County Humane Society received a donation for $470 Tuesday to help pay vet bills.
Premier Realty Keller Williams employees passed a check to humane society volunteers Tuesday for $470, which they raised during the annual Christmas party.
“We had it in January and I was one of the co-chairs, and we usually pick a charity to do something with and this year it was going to be the Mower County Humane Society,” realty employee Jennifer Walsh said.
Members raised the funds through a game, as well as some extra donations after the party. Walsh quoted another employee while explaining the importance of donating to the humane society.
“Pets are just humans with fur,” she said.
She hopes others will be encouraged to donate to the humane society, as it’s all volunteer run and receives no funding from the national humane society or the city. She also hopes people will leave with a new pet.
“If they didn’t take care of the animals, you’d have people deciding their own method [to deal with them], and that would be heartbreaking,” Walsh said.
The money will go towards vet bills for some of the new dogs and cats that have come in recently.
