Shirley M. Wolfe Mattson was born Oct. 12, 1920, to Albert and Minnie (Martin) Wolfe in Austin, Minnesota. She graduated from Austin High School. After high school, she used her secretarial training working for a brief time in the offices of Hormel. On Nov. 13, 1943, she was united in marriage to Stewart E. Mattson in Austin, Minnesota. She and Stewart (Stewie) made their home in Austin where their children, Sandra and James, were born. Being a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother were her greatest joys. Her love of cooking and baking were enjoyed by family, neighbors and friends. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Shirley helped with the preparation of many church dinners. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and coffee on Monday mornings with friends and neighbors. In 2007, Shirley and Stewie moved from their home in Austin to Cannon Falls, Minnesota, to be near their son Jim and his wife Stacy. While in Cannon Falls, she lived with her husband at Twin Rivers Senior Campus where she made new friends and enjoyed weekly bingo games with them. Declining health required her to move to a nursing facility in Cannon Falls until her death.

Shirley’s memory and spirit will live on through her daughter Sandra Scheib-Ostwinkle (Dennis) and family; son James Mattson (Stacy) and family; sister-in-law Jeanette Buchanan (John); and several extended family members.
