Workshop, lecture to focus on Mendelssohn’s works

The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host a Mendelssohn workshop and lecture at First Presbyterian Church, 308 Water Street, Albert Lea, from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Feb. 27.
Dr. James Hammann, an esteemed chapter member, will present a lecture on the life and organ music of Felix Mendelssohn.
Hammann has recently retired from being the co-chair of the music department at the University of New Orleans, where he taught organ and music theory. He presently resides in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he is a church organist and active recitalist.
In May of 1998,Hammann recorded all of the major organ works of Felix Mendelssohn on a 1785 Stumm Brothers organ in Neckargemund, Germany.
Refreshments will precede the workshop and the public is welcome to attend.
