ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Board of Cosmetology is considering how to regulate a salon service that has grown in popularity.

Dragon Nails owner Kim Le, in Robbinsdale, says requests for eyelash extensions are increasing. And while Le is a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician, others providing the service are not.

Among revised regulations the state board is considering is one that requires a minimum 600 hours of training to apply eyelash extensions. Republican Rep. Mary Franson is among those who think the training requirement is excessive. She’s introduced a bill that would require no more than eight hours of training. The board hasn’t yet taken a stand on the issue.
