Brownsdale man taken to St. Marys after collision with semi

A Brownsdale man was hospitalized Thursday after he lost control on an icy stretch of Highway 56 north of Interstate 90 and was struck by a semi.

Eric Johnson, 47, of Brownsdale was driving southbound in a 2011 Kia Fex when it lost control on icy roads, crossed the center line, spun and was hit on the back side by a northbound 1996 Peterbilt semi around 9:50 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Johnson was taken to St. Marys in Rochester, but his injuries are believed to non-life threatening, according to the report.

Samuel Ellringer, 20, of Eyota was driving the semi and was not injured.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the State Patrol.

 

2 Austin residents hurt in rollover

Two Austin residents were injured in a rollover in Freeborn County at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Eloisa Fernando Rubio, 48, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado westbound on Interstate 90 when she lost control in icy roads, entered the ditch and rolled, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

She and Fernando S. Fernando, 22, of Austin sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

Two Austin teens in the car were not injured.
